Keep the soil lightly but consistently moist until the plants are established. Thereafter, water approximately once every week to 10 days or whenever the soil is dry. Provide enough water to saturate the soil to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. Don't water again until the soil is dry as petunias are prone to rot in soggy soil. Water early in the day to prevent diseases, such as mildew and rot. Feed grandiflora petunias monthly, using a dry or water-soluble, general-purpose garden fertilizer. Apply the fertilizer according to the guidelines on the container, and then water deeply to distribute the fertilizer throughout the root zone. Surround the plant with 1 to 2 inches of mulch, such as chopped bark or dry, chopped leaves. Mulch retains soil moisture, moderates temperature, enriches soil quality, and prevents mud from splashing on the foliage during irrigation or rain.
